What is a PID controller?
“PID” stands for “Proportional, Integral, Derivative”. “Proportional” is the actual variance in temperature. “Integral” is the previous variance in temperature. “Derivative” is the predicted future variance. Essentially the controller uses a formula that allows the actual temperature to more accurately match the set temperature, with less over and under shoot.

What the difference between Type-J t/c, and Type-K t/c, and a PT100-RTD sensors?
All three are precision sensors that will accurately control heating products. Thermocouples use two wires made of different metals that are welded together at the sensing end. When a temperature change occurs, a millivolt voltage is created. The controller interprets the voltage to determine the temperature. Type-K thermocouples have higher ranges than type-J (2,300°F vs 1,400F° (1,260°C vs 760°C)), and work better in conditions where water is present. “RTD” stands for “resistance temperature detector”. The sensors contain resistors that change resistance as the temperature changes, which is interpreted by the controller. “PT100” refers to the resistance (100 ohms) at 32°F (0°C). Temperatures controlled by an RTD have a top temperature of about 1,560°F (850°C).

How does the controller know which voltage I am using?
The SDX controller is designed to accept any AC-output voltage between 100 and 240. The end-user must be sure to use heating products with operating voltages that match the power source.

What if I don’t have the proper connector to link my heater to the controller?
The SDX controller includes an extra C14 plug that matches the C13 input receptacle. The end user simply needs to install it on their heater.

What happens if something fails and the heater being controlled gets too hot or too cold?
An audible alarm is standard and will activate if temperatures fall outside programmed parameters.

Can this controller be used in wet areas or outdoors?
No

What accessories do I need to purchase?
None; the power cord and 5 ft (1.5 m) sensor is included.  Simply install the plug provided to your heater

Are there agency approvals on the SDX?
SDX controllers’ safety-critical components, enclosures, and materials are UL Listed/Recognized, and cULus and CE are pending.

What is the NEMA and IP rating?
NEMA1, IP30
