What is the warranty on your products?
From BriskHeat’s official “Terms and Conditions: The BriskHeat Corporation (hereinafter referred as (“BriskHeat”) warrants to the original purchaser for the period of eighteen (18) months from date of shipment or twelve (12) months from date of installation, whichever comes first, , that the products manufactured by BriskHeat: (A) conform to the description and specifications as set forth in BriskHeat’s current catalogue or in the quotation and drawings submitted by BriskHeat: and (B) are free from defects in materials and workmanship under prescribed use and service.

How do I wire your products?
Please refer to product instruction manuals for wiring directions.  All electrical wiring must follow local electrical codes. The person who performs the final installation/wiring must be qualified for this work. We suggest you consult a certified electrician for all wiring applications.

How do I calculate amp draw on your heaters?
Divide the total number of watts from your heater by the number of volts powering the heater. Example: If you have a heater that has 100 total watts that is powered by 120V, it will draw 0.83 amps.
How do I get my heating tape to stay on my container or pipe? Is there an adhesive tape or ties that can withstand the high temp of the tape? Yes, some of our products come with high temperature ties already attached. We also suggest the use of a BriskHeat’s high- temperature-rated adhesive tape that will withstand a temperature up to 550°F (288°C).

What is self-regulating cable?
Self-regulating cable, also known as heat tape or heat trace, is a semi-flexible heating cable that automatically regulates its heat output based upon surface temperature and ambient conditions. It is often used for freeze protection applications to wrap or trace pipes, tanks, vessels, roofing and much more.

What is a Class l/Division 1 environment?
Class l/Division1 is an environment in which ignitable concentrations of flammable gases or vapors may exist under normal operating conditions, during repair or maintenance, or where faulty equipment might release these flammable gases or vapors.

Is insulation required with your Self-Regulating Heater Cable?
Insulation is highly recommended to use with our Self-Regulating Heating Cable. Insulation helps reduce heat loss which helps reduce the amount of energy the cable consumes. It will provide the required efficiency.

How much power is consumed with self-regulating cable?
This varies depending on the product selected, its application, and ambient conditions. Self-regulating cable consumes more power, and generates more heat, in colder conditions. BriskHeat cable can use as little as 3 watts/foot (10 watts/meter) to as much as much as 20 watts/foot (60 watts/meter). The use of insulation with self-regulated cable will help reduce power consumption.

Can I bury self-regulating cable?
Yes, but it cannot be immersed in water.

Can I use self-regulating cable on copper pipes?
Yes.

Can I use self-regulating cable on plastic pipes?
Yes.

MLK2001is rated for 230V. Can it be used with 208V and/or 277V?
It can be used with 208V and 240V but not 277V.

Can I cut Self-Regulating Heating Cable anywhere?
Yes, Brisk Heat Self-Regulating Cable is designed to be Cut to Length in the field.

What is the maximum temperature your Self-Regulating Heating Cable will reach?
This varies depending on the product being used and its environment. BriskHeat has Self-Regulating Heat Cable with maximum continuous maintenance temperatures up to 248°F (120°C), but normally maximum temperatures are much less than the max.

Which of your controls do you recommend for self-regulating?
Brisk Heat has various temperature controls for a variety of applications. Our most popular controllers for self-regulating cable is our TD101 automatic on-off series. Contact BriskHeat directly for us to help you choose the correct products controller for your specific applications.

What is the average my self-regulating cable will maintain?
This varies depending on the product selected and the environment. Example - Without a controller, most standard self-regulating cable average temperatures will be less than 100°F (38°C).

Is a temperature control needed for your Self-Regulating Heating Cable?
BriskHeat Self-Regulating Heating Cable should be used with an appropriate temperature controller to save energy and ensure the cable is only energized during cold periods, but it is not required. Temperature control is also necessary to maintain a specific process temperature.

What is the maximum allowable circuit length?
Depending on the wattage, voltage and circuit capacity, circuit lengths can range from 32ft (10 meters) to 660ft (200 meters). See spec sheet for specifics.

How do I determine pitch on larger diameter pipes?
Contact Brisk Heat directly and we can help determine the correct pitch for your specific applications.

Cable/Constant Wattage

Do I need a temperature controller with Constant Wattage Heating Tape?
Yes - BriskHeat Constant Wattage Cable should be used with an appropriate temperature controller.

What is the maximum bending radius of constant wattage cable?
The maximum bend radius for our constant wattage cable is 1” (25 mm).

How do I terminate Constant Wattage Heating Cable?
BriskHeat offers kits that include the required termination products.

Resistance Wire

What is a multi-stranded resistance wire?
Several smaller wires of various metals like nickel, aluminum, chrome, and copper are combined to make one wire.

Why multi-stranded?
Wires are more flexible and durable and exact heater specifications are better met.

Can I buy it by itself?
Yes, available lengths are 500 feet (152 meters) and 1,000 feet (304 meters). Contact BriskHeat to determine the proper part number.

Heating Tapes/Silicone and Cut-To-Length

Is a controller needed for this product?
Yes, you will need the use of a temperature control for this product.

Where do I place the thermocouple?
We suggest that you place the thermocouple (J or K type) so it is touching the surface that is being heated and the tape at the same time.

Can I cut heat tape if it’s too long?
Only if the product you have is specified as Cut-To- Length (CTL) may you cut it. Any other product will be damaged beyond repair with the warranty voided.

Are your products waterproof?
No, our silicone products are splash proof, (IP66), but they cannot be immersed in liquid.

FAQ Heating Tapes/Fiberglass - SAMOX

Is a control needed for this product?
Yes, you will need the use of a temperature control for this product.

Where do I place the thermocouple?
We suggest that you place the thermocouple (J or K type) so it is touching the surface that is being heated and the tape at the same time.

Can I cut heat tape if it’s too long?
No, our tapes will not work if the heating elements have been cut.

Can your products be submersed?
No, our tapes will be destroyed if they are submersed.

Mantle/Beaker Heating

Is a controller needed for this product?
You will need the use of a temperature controller for all of these products except the metal-housed mantles which includebuilt-in controllers.

When should I use a soft-sided heated mantle as opposed to a metal housed mantle?
There are a few differences between the two that may help you when making your decision. For example: The metal housed is more sturdy, safe-to-touch and can be plug-and-play; however, the soft-sided can reach higher temperatures and has more factory approvals along with the custom capability to build to specific projects.

FAQ Heating Blankets/Silicone

Is a control needed for this product?
Yes, you will need the use of a temperature control for this product.

What’s the largest size blanket you can manufacture?
We currently can manufacture blankets any length with a maximum width of 4 feet (1.2 m).

Can you change the setpoint on a high limit thermostat on SRX heaters?
No, the setpoints are designed to keep the blanket rated for hazardous area approvals. Any changes will void the approvals.

How do I hold the heater in place until I can get the PSA cured?
We suggest using a high-heat adhesive tape to secure the heater to its vessel until the PSA has had time to properly cure. A good general guideline for curing is 200°F (93°C) for 20 minutes.

Can I leave the tape on after the PSA is cured?
You may if it is rated for the temperatures you will be achieving in your process.
