Get even faster heat-ups when used with a BriskHeat® Wet-area Drum Insulator or Heater.
BriskHeat’s DHI is easy-to-install, delivers 1,000 watts for maximum heat, has a built-in digital controller for easy programming, and a 10 ft (3 m) cord and plug for simple plug-and-play operation. Additionally, the superalloy Incoloy 840 heater will not corrode or contaminate the product, is grounded, and includes a 180°F (82°C) high-limit cut-off for safety and peace of mind.
Incoloy 840 is also suitable for use with food ingredients. DHI Immersion heaters can be paired with FGDHIW wet-area insulators for even better thermal performance. The FGDHIW insulators are easily installed using built-in straps and buckles and are extremely durable. Both are suitable for use in wet or washdown environments.

Application:
55 gal (200 – 208 l) drums are popular industrial storage and dispensing containers. Greases, oils, food ingredients, chemicals, fats, stabilizers & catalysts, and solvents are a few of the common materials that utilize 55 gal (200 - 208 l) drums. These materials often need their temperatures raised to reduce viscosity or protect them from the cold. Often the heat-up needs to be done quickly, which can be difficult depending on the material. Additionally, if the environment is extremely cold, that poses an additional challenge. Achieving the desired temperatures, whether elevated
up to 160°F (71°C) or just above freezing, ensures products are ready for use and easy to dispense. If this is not done efficiently, the consequences could include production delays, ruined products, or damage/maintenance costs. Any of these consequences can cause expensive problems, leading to lost production and reduced profits.
Solution:
BriskHeat’s DHI 55 gal (200 – 208 litre) immersion heater provides an effective solution. The DHI is easy-to-install, delivers 1,000 watts for maximum heat, has a built-in digital controller for easy programming, and a 10 ft (3 m) cord and plug for simple plug-and-play operation. Additionally, the superalloy Incoloy 840 heater will not corrode or contaminate the product, is grounded, and includes a 180°F (82°C) high-limit cut-off for safety and peace of mind. Incoloy 840 is also approved for use with food ingredients. DHI Immersion heaters can be paired with FGDHIW wet-area insulators for even better thermal performance. The FGDHIW insulators are easily installed using built-in straps and buckles and are extremely durable. Both are suitable for use in wet or washdown environments.
Q. How much of the immersion heater is heating?
A. The length of the heating tubes are 32 in (813 mm) and the lower 12 in (305 mm) emanate heat.
Q. Can the immersion heaters be used in wet areas?
A. Yes. Their IP rating is 55, which means they can withstand water jets projected by a nozzle from any direction.
Q. What is the advantage of an immersion heater compared to a full-coverage drum heater?
A. Performance tests show that the DHI immersion heater, when coupled with a BriskHeat full-coverage insulator, heats faster than a standard full-coverage drum heater.
Q. Can the immersion heater be used on applications where contamination is prohibited?
A. Yes. The DHI immersion heater is constructed of Incoloy 840, which is a superalloy designed for excellent corrosion resistance and superior high temperature performance.
Q. Are there any additional safety features, especially to protect poly or cardboard 55-gallon drums?
A. Yes. DHI immersion heaters are all built with standard round built-in spacers at the bottom of the heating element to act as a barrier between the heater and the sides of the drums in case the heater accidentally shifts. There is also a visual high limit alarm that indicates the temperature has exceeded the 180°F (82°C) limit.
Q. Why should insulators be used in conjunction with immersion heaters?
A. Performance tests show that heat-up times when both are used together are faster than with DHI immersion heaters alone. Insulators retain heat resulting in a lower cost of operation. Additionally, heater/insulator systems can reach warmer temperatures, especially in cold environments.
Q. What makes the wet-area insulators suitable for use in wet areas?
A. The outer material is made of water-resistant antimicrobial polyester cloth, and the insulation is a closed-cell (water-repelling) elastomer.
