Q: What are silicone rubber heating blankets used for?
A: Silicone rubber heating blankets are commonly used to:
- Prevent freezing of equipment and materials
- Maintain process temperatures
- Reduce the viscosity of oils, resins, adhesives, and other fluids
- Heat tanks, vessels, drums, pipes, and composite materials
- Support laboratory testing and research applications
Q: How do I select the right silicone rubber heating blanket?
A: Key factors include:
- Surface dimensions
- Material being heated
- Desired temperature
- Ambient conditions
- Available voltage
- Required wattage
- Control requirements
Q: Can silicone rubber heating blankets be customized?
A: Yes. Custom silicone rubber heating blankets can be manufactured in various sizes, shapes, voltages, wattages, and temperature ranges.
Q: Can silicone rubber heating blankets be used outdoors?
A: Silicone rubber heating blankets are moisture and chemical resistant, but you should always check the rating in the specifications of the product before using outdoors.
Q: Are silicone rubber heating blankets flexible?
A: Yes. Silicone rubber heating blankets are highly flexible and can conform to flat, curved, and irregular surfaces. This flexibility helps provide efficient heat transfer and even temperature distribution.
Q: How are silicone rubber heating blankets installed?
A: Installation methods vary by model and may include:
- Pressure-sensitive adhesive backing
- Spring systems
- Hook-and-loop fasteners
Q: Are silicone rubber heating blankets energy efficient?
A: Yes. Because they transfer heat directly to the target surface, silicone rubber heating blankets can be an energy-efficient heating solution compared to heating an entire room or enclosure.
Q: Can silicone rubber heating blankets be used for composite curing?
A: Yes. Silicone rubber heating blankets are widely used in composite repair and curing applications, providing controlled and uniform heat for aerospace, marine, automotive, and industrial composite processes.
Q: Is a control needed for this product?
A: Yes, you will need the use of a temperature control for this product unless the product states that it comes with a control.
Q: What’s the largest size blanket you can manufacture?
A: We currently manufacture blankets of any length with a maximum width of 4 feet (1.2 m).
Q: Can you change the setpoint on a high limit thermostat on SRX heaters?
A: No, the setpoints are designed to keep the blanket rated for hazardous area approvals. Any changes will void the approvals.
Q: How do I hold the heater in place until I can get the PSA cured?
A: We suggest using a high-heat adhesive tape to secure the heater to its vessel until the PSA has had time to properly cure. A good general guideline for curing is 200°F (93°C) for 20 minutes.
Q: Can I leave the tape on after the PSA is cured?
A: You may if it is rated for the temperatures you are wanting to achieve in your process.
