BriskHeat Announces Class I, Division 1 Hazardous-Area-Rated Self-Regulating Heating Cables

New Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Factory Mutual (FM) Approvals for Class I, Division 1 Hazardous-Area Environments

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 19, 2018 – BriskHeat, a leading provider of flexible heating, insulating, and temperature control solutions, announced its new approval ratings for BriskHeat self-regulating heating cables. These cables can be used in Class I, Division 1 hazardous-area locations. The heating cable carries approvals from both the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Factory Mutual (FM).

Class I, Division 1 locations are those in which flammable gases or vapors are or may be present in the air in quantities sufficient to produce explosive or ignitable mixtures. Ignitable concentrations of flammable gases, vapors, liquids, or even dust can exist under normal operating conditions and can be found in many industries, such as oil and gas, chemical, hydrocarbon refining, mining, and coal processing, along with many others.

“Facilities maintenance professionals, process engineers and production managers need solutions to protect production and storage systems from the cold weather,” said Patrick Doyle, Vice President of Business Development, BriskHeat. “If the liquids and gasses in these systems aren’t properly protected from potential sources of ignition, the risk of a catastrophic event causing lengthy downtime, injury, or death is much greater. BriskHeat Class I, Division 1 hazardous-area-rated self-regulating heating cable provides an ideal way to address this issue, creating a safer and more efficient working environment.”

The self-regulating design continuously and automatically regulates its heat output based upon environmental conditions to provide a safe and efficient freeze protection heater. The cable is traced along the length of the pipe or may be wrapped around vessels to provide the required warmth needed to prevent freezing conditions. The cable is easy to install and can safely overlap itself without risk of failure or overheating.

To complete the system, BriskHeat also offers several insulation options to improve thermal efficiency. BriskHeat’s Silver-Series cloth insulators are a modular system of insulators that can easily be configured to fit most systems. They feature a durable high-temperature polymer-coated cloth, high-efficiency fiberglass insulation, and a hook-and-loop closure for easy installation and reusability. For low-temperature installations, BriskHeat offers Insul-lockDS and Insul-EZ foam insulators used to insulate pipes and vessels.

BriskHeat also offers many varieties of heating cable and surface heating products for use in ordinary non-hazardous locations. To see the full range of heating solutions, visit the product page or call 888-501-7491.
