A simple and efficient way to apply heat to an emulsification process during manufacturing of cosmetic products
Manufacturing cosmetic creams and lotions involves an emulsion process in which an oil, wax, and/or fat component is combined with a water component and an emulsifying agent. This is often done in a large kettle and heated to elevated temperatures such as 158°F (70°C). The even distribution and precise control of temperature is critical to this application to prevent hardening or burning and is necessary for the formula to be consistent from one batch to the next.
BS0 Flexible Silicone Rubber Heating Tapes symmetrically wrapped around the kettle provides the necessary heat and uniformity needed for components to emulsify. Heating tapes can be configured to spread the heat evenly around nearly any size vessel, reducing hot spots that can scorch or damage materials. The extreme flexibility of BS0 tapes allow for easy installation around obstructions like valves, flanges, lifting rings, etc. The silicone construction provides moisture and chemical resistance to increase durability and service life . The tapes are held in place onto the surface of the kettle using a high temperature adhesive tape.
SRL/SRP Flexible Silicone Rubber Heating Blankets also provide reliable and consistent surface heat to large kettles, tanks, and vessels. Available with and without pre-applied adhesive backing that assists with heater installation. They can be manufactured to nearly any size, shape, and voltage.
Because accurate temperature control is important, an extremely accurate X2 digital PID temperature controller is recommended. The highly accurate PID controller ensures optimal heater performance for emulsifying cosmetic components.
Optional INSUL-EZ™ foam sheet insulation is applied over BS0 heating tapes or SRL/SRP heating blankets to provide increased thermal efficiency. A peel-and-stick adhesive backing makes the foam insulation fast and easy to install. The foam material is a closed-cell foam that repels most liquids and resists mold and mildew growth.
Both BS0 heating tapes and SRL/SRP heating blankets are excellent solutions for nearly any viscosity controlling application. Used often for freeze protection and process control of liquids or materials that become difficult to flow without the use of added heat.
